UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS specialises in providing robust protective solutions for industrial environments. This case study details the successful repair and protection of a concrete bund at a soft drinks manufacturing site, utilizing UPS 909 PP POROUS PRIMER UPS 804 ECPR EPOXY CONCRETE PATCH REPAIR, and UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC.
At a soft drinks manufacturing site, a concrete bund that served as chemical containment was identified as needing protection from potential spillages of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). The existing concrete surface had suffered damage and was at risk of further degradation if exposed to the highly corrosive chemical.
The challenge was to effectively repair the damaged concrete and apply a protective coating that could withstand the aggressive nature of Sodium Hydroxide. The solution needed to provide long-term durability and ensure that the concrete bund could continue to function effectively as a containment barrier.
UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS provided a comprehensive repair and protection solution using UPS 909 PP, UPS 804 ECPR, and UPS 407 EN. The application process involved the following steps:
Surface Preparation
- Mechanical grinders were used to remove the damaged and loose top layer of the concrete surface. This preparation was crucial to ensure a clean and stable base for the repair and coating application.
Concrete Repair with UPS 804 ECPR EPOXY CONCRETE PATCH REPAIR
- Damaged sections of the concrete were rebuilt using UPS 804 ECPR. This material provided a strong and durable repair, restoring the integrity of the concrete bund.
Priming with UPS 909 PP POROUS PRIMER
- After allowing the repaired sections to cure for four hours, the entire area was primed with UPS 909 PP. This primer ensured proper adhesion of the subsequent protective coating.
Application of UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC
- Following an overnight cure, the primed surface was over-coated with two layers of UPS 407 EN. Each coat was applied at a nominal thickness of 450 microns, providing robust protection against the corrosive effects of Sodium Hydroxide.
The application of UPS 909 PP, UPS 804 ECPR, and UPS 407 EN successfully protected the concrete bund from potential chemical damage. The durable coating system restored the surface and provided long-lasting resistance to Sodium Hydroxide, ensuring the safety and functionality of the chemical containment area.
This case study highlights the effectiveness of UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS' repair and protective coatings in safeguarding industrial assets from harsh chemical environments. Our advanced materials and precise application techniques delivered a reliable solution that extended the life of the chemical containment bund.
