At a major docking facility, a total of 24 dock gates required extensive refurbishment. The bearings on these gates had to be replaced with composite materials, and the alignment of each section was crucial, needing to be within a fraction of a millimeter to ensure proper operation.

The challenge was to achieve precise alignment and secure the new composite bearings within the existing steel structure. The solution needed to be durable, ensuring that the dock gates would function reliably after refurbishment.

UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS provided a meticulous refurbishment process using UPS 205 FG and UPS 105 EG. The repair process included the following steps:

Bearing Alignment and Installation

- Each of the 8sections, measuring 1.5 meters by 1 meter, was carefully aligned and bolted into place. The alignment of each section was critical to ensure the proper functioning of the dock gates.

- UPS 105 EG was used to seal the aligned sections, ensuring a secure fit.

Injection of UPS 205 FG FLUID GRADE CERAMIC

- Injection ports were drilled into the steel structure, allowing UPS 205 FG to be injected into the bearings. This process was performed using pre-filled pressurised pneumatic cartridge guns to force the material into the voids.

- Once the UPS 205 FG cured, the excess material was machined back from the external surfaces, providing a smooth and precise finish.

The refurbishment process was successful, restoring the dock gates to their original condition with improved performance. The precise alignment and secure installation of the composite bearings, achieved using UPS 205 FG and UPS 105 EG, ensured the long-term reliability of the dock gates.
