UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS specialises in providing advanced protective solutions for industrial equipment. This case study details the successful refurbishment of water pump impeller blades using our UPS 210 CR EFFICIENCY FLUID CERAMIC.
A water pump's impeller blades had suffered significant damage due to erosion, which had removed the existing protective coating. The exposed steel fins were at risk of further wear and corrosion, threatening the efficiency and longevity of the pump.
The primary challenge was to restore the protective layer on the impeller blades to prevent further erosion and protect the steel substrate. The solution needed to ensure long-term durability and maintain the pump's performance in a demanding environment.
UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS provided a targeted repair and protection solution using UPS 210 CR. The repair process included the following steps:
Surface Preparation
- All surfaces of the impeller blades were abrasive grit blasted to achieve a surface cleanliness level of Sa 2.5 with a 75-micron profile, in accordance with ISO 8501/4Standard Sa 2.5 (SSPC SP10 / NACE 2). This preparation ensured that the new coating would adhere effectively to the substrate.
Application of UPS 210 CR EFFICIENCY FLUID CERAMIC
- The substrate was coated with two applications of UPS 210 CR, applied at 250 microns per coat. This coating provided a robust protective barrier, preventing further erosion and extending the service life of the impeller blades.
The application of UPS 210 CR successfully restored the protective coating on the impeller blades, shielding the steel fins from further erosion and damage. The newly applied coating ensured the pump's continued efficiency and reliability, even in harsh operational conditions.
This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of UNIQUE POLYMER SYSTEMS' products in restoring and protecting critical components in industrial systems. Our advanced materials and precise application process provided a durable solution, ensuring the water pump remains operational and efficient for years to come.
