One of Indonesia’s largest chemical manufacturers faced a significant challenge in protecting the floor of its absorber unit from harsh HCL chemical attacks. The absorber unit required a durable and resistant flooring solution to ensure long-term safety and functionality. With a total area of 1100 square meters to be coated, the project aimed to enhance the floor's resistance to chemical exposure, thereby extending its lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.

To address this challenge, the manufacturer chose the advanced UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC system for its superior chemical resistance. The project commenced with thorough surface preparation, adhering to industry standards SSPS SP-1, SSPC SP-2, and SSPC SP-3, to ensure optimal adhesion and longevity of the protective layers.

Surface Preparation & Primer Application

The first step involved the application of UPS 909 PP POROUS PRIMER, a one-coat primer designed to seal the surface adequately. Once the primer reached a touch-dry state, the team proceeded with the application of the UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC.

Application of UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC

The UPS 407 EN EPOXY NOVOLAC was applied in two coats using rollers and brushes, ensuring thorough and even coverage. This epoxy novolac is known for its excellent chemical resistance, making it ideal for environments exposed to aggressive chemicals like hydrochloric acid (HCL).
